Time travel romances are my favorite relaxing strategy; a few moments I can spend not thinking, not planning, nor worrying about this or that. He’s rich and ripped, she’s pretty, smart and capable, magic exists and two souls unite despite all time/space barriers. Well, a girl can use a bit of magic from time to time and, contrary to many beliefs, there are some mighty nice moments to be had with a well-written time travel romance in your lap. Give it a try if you haven’t already, starting with these following, in my humble opinion awesome, time travel romances:
1 Seducing Mr. Darcy by Gwyn Cready
Hilarious, sexy and oh-so-intense, this fast-paced story is one of those time travel romances you’ll enjoy even if you’re not a fan of this genre! It’ll shed a brand new light on Jane Austen’s masterpiece making it clear that history as well as literature isn’t supposed to be tampered with, regardless of how much you’d love to see things play out differently. Watch what happens when a modern woman succeeds to seduce the legendary hunk Mr. Darcy, causing the Pride and Prejudice copies around the world to start changing n order to convey a very different story.
2 Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning
Being whisked away from a rather comfortable (if not ideal) modern life to teach some medieval hunk a lesson was not the job Adrienne de Simone had signed up for. Well, tough luck, girl! I love, love, love this slow-burning romance despite the fact that it’s not the most historically correct piece of literature to be found and I’m sure you’ll love it, too. What’s there not to like, after all. We’ve got a super handsome warrior, a stubborn heroine that refuses to fall hard for a pretty face, mythical creatures at play and pages and pages of romance, wickedness and angst to lose ourselves within.

3 When There is Hope by Jane Goodger
You may have a hard time finding this time travel romance on iTunes but, please, don’t let that stop you! This is one of those books I wholeheartedly recommend for at least one solid reason. You see, this is not one of those romances that will keep you entertained for a couple of hours – it will make you cry, make your heart leap with joy and will definitely solidify your conviction that a person must never lose hope! It’s a story about love but, more importantly, a story about hope, and if you’ve ever gotten the urge to just give up, curl up in a ball and wait for the hooded man to come get you, this ought to give you strength to start picking up the pieces.
4 Once a Pirate by Susan Grant
A ship full of pirates is not what a navy lieutenant Carly Callahan hopes to face after suffering a plane crash she’s lucky to walk out of alive. Especially since these are not some modern pirates or a cosplay group that happened to be on the right place in the right time but real old-fashioned pirates led by a handsome yet quite disagreeable captain. Ha! Think Carly will manage to go back to her time? And if so… what will she have to give up in the process?
5 A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux
Way more than a sugary fairytale but still light enough for a casual read! LOL, I doubt anyone would ever hire me to do a back cover review but, hey, in case this opening line was enough to get you interested, you should definitely pick up this cool historical romance ASAP. It’s funny and sexy, captivating and even sad, plus it’s the first time travel romance ever to feature two-way traveling in which both the handsome hero and his lady love experience life in an environment so different than their own.
6 Awaken the Highland Warrior by Anita Clenney
Raise your hand if you have Braveheart on DVD, raise another if Mr. Gibson’s costume is what makes it worth watching over and over again and do give me an enthusiastic two-hand wave while you’re at it because you’re going to love this one! We’ve got this drop dead gorgeous Highlander who happens to fight evil for a day job and, before you say anything, let me just point out that used to be a valid profession in his time. And we have an absolutely fearless gal who decides to free him from his enchanted sleep and into a modern world in which, as we know, fighting evil doesn’t make an ideal day job. But hey, they do it anyways! And more!
7 Sixpence Bride by Virginia Farmer
Imagine being asked to reenact an old-fashioned wife sale and find yourself transported back in time for a very real one! Whoops! Oh, fret not Jocelyn Tanner, because you’re going to be purchased by a handsome gentleman. Not a particularly friendly one, I’m afraid, but hey, give it some time… Now, as for you, my historical romance fans, I’d advise you to pick this up first chance you get. I understand it’s not amongst the super popular reads but I’ve enjoyed it nevertheless. And not being popular does mean you can get it on sale, which is a perk every book enthusiast learns to appreciate eventually.
Is there a particular historical romance that stole your breath away? Something with reviews so great that you can’t wait to start reading, maybe? Do tell.
