When I was in fourth grade I was introduced to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories by a teacher, and I discovered there are many reasons to read Sherlock Holmes mysteries. I fell in love with the intrigue of the stories, I also was taken by Holmes’ unusual character. The way Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr. Watson solved mysteries fascinated me. Although you can find Sherlock Holmes on TV and in movies, there are still plenty of reasons to read Sherlock Holmes and become intrigued with these classic mystery stories.
1 Hours of Entertainment
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote 56 short stories and 4 novels in the Sherlock Holmes series. All of these stories can provide hours of entertainment. They are filled with mystery, and they all have different and unusual characters that provide plenty of entertainment. Because these stories are so interesting, it is very difficult to become bored. I wanted to know the solution to the captivating mysteries. It was always worth staying up late to find out how Holmes solved the mystery, and I never cared if I was tired the next day!

If you want a family activity that gets you away from the TV, you should read Sherlock Holmes stories with your family. The mysterious nature of these stories makes them perfect for reading out loud. All of your family members will remain captivated. Also, reading the Sherlock Holmes stories is a great way to get kids reading more.
7 There’s Nothing like the Original
Currently, you can watch Elementary, which is a modern spin on Sherlock Holmes, every week on TV. You can also watch the Hollywood movies about Sherlock Holmes. While both of these are great entertainment, there is still nothing like the original stories. The mystery, intrigue, and originality of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes can only be captured in the books.
