In a world still so dominated by men in almost every walk of life, literary heroines provide a great inspiration for women and are positive role models for girls and young women who love to read.

For some girls, literary heroines may be the only positive female role models they have, so it’s great that there are so many with courage, ambition, intelligence and wit that women can aspire to.

Here are some of my favorite literary heroines, who every woman should look up to.

1. Hermione Granger – the Harry Potter Series

Hermione Granger – the Harry Potter Series

I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed to say that my favorite literary heroine is a teenage witch, but I’m not.

Witty, hardworking, highly intelligent and courageous, Hermione showed a whole generation of girls that there is nothing wrong with being clever and getting good grades, because she is absolutely badass.

Her best quality of all is perhaps her determination to stand up for what she believes in, regardless of how others treat her as a result.

Who could forget S.P.E.W.?
