7 Summer Beach Reads You Must Toss in Your Bag Today ...

I love sitting under an umbrella in the sunshine and catching up on the bestseller list. If you’re planning to spend time soaking up the rays at the beach this summer, you should really take along a couple of books to entertain yourself with. Can’t figure out which ones are the best? Don’t worry? I’ve done all the work for you. Start with these great tomes and you’ll be well on your way to a summer full of fun and great reading.

1. The One and Only by Emily Giffin

This is chick lit at its finest. It tells the story of a Texas girl and the choices she faces through the course of her life. You’ll get so lost in this book that you might forget to reapply the sunscreen. It will resonate with you because it will remind you of the tough choices you’re faced with in your own life. This is a great book to start your summer with.

2. The Matchmaker by Elin HILDERBRAND

You are going to feel like this book is about you! It’s all about a woman who takes care of those around her, knowing what they need and want. The person she neglects: herself. You will triumph with the main character as she learns to take care of herself even as she continues caring for her loved ones. This book is entertaining and may even teach you something as you lounge on the sand.

3. Night Film by Marisha Pessl

This book really sucked me in and wouldn’t let go. It’s perfect for hours spent on the beach because you are not going to want to put it down. It tells the story of a reporter who sets out to solve the murder of a young girl. Your heart is going to pound and you are going to be afraid to go to sleep because this book is creepy and riveting at the same time.

4. I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes

If you’re looking for a book that’s packed with action and twists and turns, this is the one for you. Hayes weaves the tale of a save the world story that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, or beach towel, as the case may be. With scenes set all over the world, you are going to love the getaway from real life that this book presents.

5. All Fall down by Jennifer Weiner

This book was great! I couldn’t put it down (but my kids wanted dinner), but you can really get lost in it while you take a break at the beach. The story is about your average suburban wife and mother. But she gets addicted to prescription painkillers, which tear her life apart. You will identify with her struggles and finish the story with sympathy to the other moms and wives you know. The job is hard!

6. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

The story starts with a young man who sells everything he owns, gives away a chunk of his money and hikes into the Alaskan wilderness. Five months later, his body is found. What follows is the story of learning how and why he died. This story is heartwarming at the same time that it’s heartbreaking. Definitely a beach read, if you ask me!

7. Lost Girls by Robert Kolker

If you’re in the mood for a true crime story, this book is sure to please. It tells the real life murder mystery surrounding the discovery of five bodies, each of them escorts in Long Island. You’ll get a front row seat to the solving of the crime and will long for justice for the victims. This is a sure bet for the beach!
