This is a book by Wilkie Collins and it was written in 1899. It is literally up there in the region of inspiring books because many believe it inspired the entire mystery/sensation genre. It is a mystery novel, but it could be the very first, so it is worth a read.

Your Harry Potter books may have sold at ten every second, but when you compare it with how many copies of this book has been sold since its creation in 1937, there’s no comparison. This is a book about the 1999 school shooting and it leaves no stone unturned with regards to the incident. It even goes into details about myths that surround the event. Dave Cullen has done extensive research into the shooting tragedy and also has a way of taking a fresh look at the tragedy.
